Gold at iStockphoto
Posted by Lee Torrens
Yesterday I sold my 10,000th license at iStockphoto which qualifies me for Gold canister level. I registered there in April 2005, so it took me three years and three months – which is relatively slow progress even for someone doing microstock part time.
My current portfolio has 740 photos for an average 14 sales per photo, though only 73% have sold once or more. My top selling photo has sold 765 times and I have 15 photos which have sold more than 100 times.
If I were an exclusive iStockphoto contributor I would be receiving a raise in my commission from 30% (at Silver level) to 35% (at Gold level). As I’m not exclusive my royalty at iStockphoto remains at 20%.
However, this milestone doesn’t go unrewarded. My upload limit increases from 20 to 25 photos per week with the current upload limits. The silver canister icon on my profile is also replaced with the gold one you can see above.

Congratulations!
Congratulations!
I hope i get there until the end of this year … and maybe when i get to Diamond i aplie to exclusive … maybe …
Nice round number! Congratz!
I if I’m not mistaken, I believe these days reaching Gold also qualifies you to contribute to Getty Images, Photodisc collection. But you might have to also be exclusive, I’m not sure.
Hi Ken, iStockphoto recently allowed Silver level contributors to apply for the Getty Images opportunity too. And yes, you need to be exclusive.

Congratulations. It is a great milestone to reach even if it doesn’t give you a payrise.
congratulations, Lee! I started at iStock in October 2007 and just made my bronze canister…
Congratulations. When I hit gold, I got an almost immediate increase in downloads. I really do think, that the bling icon actually works – even if you don’t earn more per sale.
Way to go!!! But don’t you mean 3 years and 3 months??
Well spotted Warren, thankyou. I’ve updated the post.

This is great news! Congrats!
Congrats Lee!!!
Hey congrats!
I know this is off topic, but I just got an email from StockXpert stating that all contributors will be forced to offer extended licenses and subscriptions. Needless to say, I wasn’t too happy about it, so I thought I’d come here and stir up trouble. I also wrote a post on my blog about it.
Congratulations!
Congrats!
