May was a quiet month in terms of the quantity of announcements and changes, but their impacts were not so quiet.
Fotolia announced the imminent addition of subscriptions to their business model with details that disappointed contributors. They also added the ability for selected API partners to sell Fotolia images without Fotolia branding.
iStockphoto added audio to their collection of microstock media and implemented the subscription system announced in April.
Shutterstock implemented their highly anticipated raise to mixed reactions.
Dreamstime’s portfolio passed the 3 million images milestone, not far from overtaking iStockphoto who are building their portfolio at a slower rate.
BigStockPhoto added a new thumbnail display system titled RapidView and passed the 2 million images milestone.
