30 Sep 2008 This Month in Microstock – September 2008

September proved to be a quiet month. Perhaps microstock agencies are preparing for the sales run up to the end of the year.

Shutterstock reached the download milestone of 60 million. Given their subscription model, it’s not surprising that they’re leading the market on this metric. However, it’s still an impressive figure.

iStockphoto promoted Kelly Thompson to COO then sent him to the other side of the planet on vacation. They then recruited Dittmar Frohmann from Fotolia to head up iStockphoto’s new European headquarters.

Alamy dropped contributor commissions by 5% to finance a sales office in the US.

123rf passed the 3 million images milestone, demonstrating a portfolio growth rate similar to the best in the industry.

Oh yeah, and The PhotoShelter Collection closed down.

    Hi Lee

Interesting that you say it was a quiet month. September proved to be my best month by 11% over my previous best.

Shutterstock, iStock and Dreamstime all hit new highs for me. Bigstock, 123Rf were very slow though.

Thanks for a great site. I enjoy reading your information.

    Regards
    Duncan

Hey Duncan, I meant ‘quiet’ in terms of news. For sales it wasn’t quiet for me either. Wait for my earnings report tomorrow!
